January 26th, 2016 may be a landmark day in the temp workers’ movement. The NLRB recently cleared the way for temp workers to organize, temp worker unions are starting to emerge, and on January 26th the AFL-CIO, the largest group in organized labor, is turning its attention to temp workers.
The AFL-CIO headquarters in Washington, DC will be hosting a public screening of the temp worker documentary A Day’s Work. Discussion of the current temp worker situation will follow the screening. AFL-CIO membership and organizers will be on hand, and invitations have been extended to the local labor community, workers, and the political establishment. The question that will be on everyone’s mind, “Is it time for big labor to organize temp workers?”
